First U.S. Fair Trade Beer to Celebrate Launch in New York City

Peak Organic launches “Fair Trade” beer brewed with Irving Farm coffee.
Peak Organic Brewing Co., a Portland, Me.-based small organic brewer, recently began offering a limited release of its Espresso Amber Ale, the first Fair Trade Certified beer brewed in the United States. The beer, which is made from organic barley and hops and flavored with organic, Fair Trade coffee sourced from Honduras by Irving Farm, a sustainable artisan coffee roaster in New York’s Hudson Valley. Not only are the brew’s ingredients certified free from chemical pesticides and fertilizers, they also come from suppliers that adhere to higher labor and environmental standards. To celebrate the occasion, the companies will host a joint launch party in New York City tomorrow. The no-cost event will be open to the public, with complimentary food, Espresso Amber Ale and Irving Farm coffees.
Launch party to be held at Irving Farm, 88 Orchard St., New York; Friday, March 7th, 6-10 p.m.
