A new e-learning site dedicated to informing the students—and the public—about the role of nutrients in healthy food production and the preservation of green spaces.

Discovery Education, the K-12 digital educational content arm of the folks behind the Discovery Channel, Animal Planet and TLC networks, and The Nutrients for Life Foundation, a nonprofit focused on teaching earth science, has launched “From the Ground Up: The Science of Soil,” a site aimed at helping middle school students gain a deeper understanding of the importance of healthy soil for growing plants for food.
The online destination features practical resources that inform, educate and highlight the importance of soil, its nutrients and the science behind creating sustainable agricultural practices, including lesson plans, interactive tools, family activities and career profiles.
“Soil is one of our world’s greatest natural resources and provides the platform for farmers and gardeners to grow our food,” Harriet Wegmeye, Nutrients for Life Foundation Executive Director, said in a statement. “We are excited to share these science-based digital resources about soil and fertilizers through our partnership with Discovery Education. For everyone who has ever been curious about the complex world of soil nutrients, this program is for you!”
