Giant White Bird Of Paradise (Strelitzia nicolai) is a magnificent, ornamental, tropical plant which is known for its incredible long evergreen leaves similar to banana leaves and long fan like spiky stalks. Â The trunk is erect and similar to a palm tree base. Giant White Bird Of Paradise originates from South Africa but is grown widely in the tropical regions of US and is poplar as an indoor plant. In its native habitat or temperate regions, this species can reach heights of 20-30 feet and a spread of 15 to 20 feet, but when cultivated as an indoor plant, it generally grows from 6 to 8 feet. It can be grown outdoors in USDA Hardiness Zones 10a-12a. The plant showy produces a 7-to-18-inch flower consisting of a dark blue bract/frond with visually appealing white and blueish calyx/sepals. Â White Bird of Paradise would make a spectacular specimen in any container, architectural or tropical garden.

White Bird of Paradise prefers full sun with part shade, well-draining, sandy loamy, moist soil. It showed be placed in a protected area from strong winds. It cannot tolerate frost (even on a short-term basis without moderate leaf damage. If used as a container plant, it should be brought indoors before cold temperatures arrive.

White Bird of Paradise does not suffer from any major diseases but may suffer from scale damage. Mild pruning of dead foliage and extra new growth is suggested. Growing White Bid of {Paradise can be a tediously slow process so propagating by the plants suckers is advised.
