Want a tree for your garden that is easy to grow, resilient and beautifully sculptural? Look no further than Snow Gum Eucalyptus (Eucalyptus pauciflora), a hardy strain originating from several regions in Australia — not to be confused with Eucalytus globulus, an invasive species spreading throughout California and other states. With its twisted branches and striking white flowers, it makes for a stunning addition to any architectural landscape.

Snow Gum Eucalyptus can grow from a modest 12 feet to an impressive 50 feet tall in USDA zones 7-11. The trunk is usually slightly twisted with grey, green and cream-colored bark. The tree produces lovely abundant white flowers from late fall to mid-winter and attracts a broad range of birds

This particular eucalyptus members benefits from full sun and fertile, well draining, semi-moist and slightly acidic soil. It doesn’t, however, care for strong winds. Eucalyptus trees are prone to several types of canker diseases, as well as trunk rot and pests problems ranging from beetles to borers, so vigilance is recommended to prevent potential problems.

Properly placed, healthy and well cared for, Snow Gum Eucalyptus is an ornamental beauty with serious garden potential.
