Home and Garden Objects of Lilly Pulitzer Up for Auction

Items from the home and garden of Lilly Pulitzer, designer for wealthy jet-setters, to hit the auction block.
Those who appreciated the sensibility of the late fashion designer Lilly Pulitzer—who dressed the likes of Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis and members of the Rockefeller and Vanderbilt families in her signature bright tropical print and floral patterned dresses—can own a piece from her Palm Beach, Fla., estate called “The Jungle,” because of its lush landscaping and decor reminiscent of life in the tropics, for as little as a few hundred dollars (several garden object estimates start as low as $100).
Leslie Hindman Auctioneers’ “Property From The Estate Of Lilly Pulitzer,” to be held on February 22 in West Palm Beach, will feature furniture, artwork and decorative objects owned by the socialite and style icon. Offerings of interest to gardeners include a Chinese pottery garden seat, cast stone garden ornaments and a sculpture-style glazed terra cotta garden table, as well several sets of nature-inspired dinner plates.
“Lilly Pulitzer was arguably Palm Beach’s most famous resident,” said Leslie Hindman, the auction house’s president and founder. “Her style and joie de vivre helped create a culture that exists nowhere else.”
Sale preview on Feb. 14, 15 and 17-21. Bids can be made in person, by phone or online. Even if bidding is out of reach, scanning the auction catalog online for a glimpse into her world is free of charge.
